How billing works with EyeSee
EyeSee Services is a remote ophthalmology reading service. Your practice captures a retinal (fundus) image during a routine visit using your own camera and uploads it to us; a board-certified ophthalmologist interprets the image and returns a clear, structured report, typically within 24–48 hours. Because the work is split this way, billing is split too.
- Technical fee — collected by your practice. The fee associated with capturing and submitting the diagnostic image is billed and collected by the participating practice, just as you would for any in-house imaging.
- Professional interpretation fee — rendered by EyeSee. The expert read is performed by a licensed ophthalmologist or qualified reading provider. The contract between your practice and EyeSee Services clearly outlines how this professional fee is handled and allocated.
Coverage varies by payer
Insurance coverage for ocular image interpretation is determined by each payer’s contract terms and by the physician’s participation within those networks. Some — but not all — plans reimburse the professional interpretation under global billing arrangements. Because coverage differs across payers, plans, and geographies, we encourage practices and patients to verify benefits with their respective insurance carriers before relying on any specific reimbursement.
EyeSee provides hands-on implementation guidance to help you navigate payer-specific reimbursement models, but we do not guarantee payment or coverage for any service.
